Coastal field near the ocean
Coastal fields, 2023

This is a landscape I painted based on an image of a rural Scottish coastal field. My favourite thing about this painting is the colour of the water: green, blue and light purple.

I referenced this painting from a picture I took on holiday in Italy. When I saw that picture in my camera roll, I immediately decided to paint it because I loved the perspective of a narrow alleyway. This painting reminds me just how hot and sunny Rome was and how beautiful little alleyways in it were.

Rural fields, 2023

I love painting rural landscapes and this is one of them. It was referenced from a picture of the English countryside. My favourite part of the painting is probably the greenery behind the horses; I like the shadows in that area as well as the illusion of the fence created from the negative space.

Though this painting just contains a single subject, it is the one that took me the longest time to complete. In order to paint this rose, I produced a couple of sketches, then a whole draft and only then began painting this piece.

I treated this work as a colour study and a way for me to depart from my usual style towards something more realistic. Mixing pigments and producing realistic colours is my favourite part of painting so I truly enjoyed working on this rose.

This painting is another study of a rose in a vastly different style –  this time in highly contrasting, bright tones. This colour scheme was actually not intentional; I accidentally used red paint that was far brighter than intended, could not take it off and so carried on.
